- Portland Art Musuem, 2-for-1 adult admission tonight Thursday 12/11 between 4:00pm - 8:00pm.

- Caffè Umbria's Portland Retail Café will celebrate its one-year anniversary on Wednesday, December 10th, 2008 by offering any coffee drink for one dollar. All proceeds from the day will be donated to Share Our Strength's Taste of the Nation Portland. Funds raised through Taste of the Nation Portland are distributed locally to the Oregon Food Bank, St Vincent de Paul, the Oregon Hunger Relief Task Force, and Klamath-Lake Counties Food Bank.  Caffè Umbria's store is located in the Pearl District at 303 NW 12th Avenue and will be open from 7am to 8pm.

- First Thursday, downtown Portland.  Yep, this Thursday December 4th.  On the first Thursday evening of every month many Portland galleries extend their hours to host receptions for that month's new exhibitions. Often the featured artist is at the gallery during the opening. Times and dates are usually in the neighborhood of 5:30pm - 9:00pm, but please check the web site for specific hours.  Check out both of these web sites for more details:  Portland Art Dealers Association and the Downtown Art Gallery Association.

- Last minute!!!  See the Portland Center Stage production of "A Christmas Carol" this Wednesday, December 3rd for what you can afford!  Special one-time performance, see Aroundthesunblog for details.

- First Tuesday, December 2nd, downtown Hillsboro from 6:00pm - 8:00pm.  Downtown retail shops and restaurants host art displays and artisans showing and demonstrating their work.
Each month has 20 (or more) varying participating artists and businesses - brightly colored lanterns are hung in front of those participating to help guide you. Flyers can be picked up at any participating business during the artwalk.  Complimentary beverages and hors d'ouvres are served by most merchants. Come join us for a fun evening!

- Beaverton's Southridge High School holds their fifth annual "Girls Night Out" fundraiser this Thursday, November 20th from 4:30pm - 9:00pm.  Features over 40 vendors, silent auction, raffle and a fashion show of gently used prom dresses which will sell for $20.  Free admission to the marketplace, $5 for dessert and coffee.

- Free admission for everyone at the Portland Japanese Garden this Tuesday, November 11th from 10:00am - 4:00pm.  Bring a can of food to benefit the Oregon Food Bank.

- $2 Tuesday at the Oregon Zoo.  Yep, after the Japanese Garden (or before), take the short drive up Kingston Drive to the Oregon Zoo.  Admission is just $2 for everyone all day, from 9:00am - 4:00pm.  The zoo will add $2 for parking for your party, or go public transportation and show your pass or ticket and the zoo will knock off $1 the admission, so you could actually go for just $1!  Go see the baby new elephant!

- Keep Portland Weird!  A community festival on Saturday, November 8th from 11:00am - 4:00pm at the downtown Portland Multnomah County central library.  Featuring a performance by Klezmocracy and activities from the Portland Sacred Harp, Portland Uke Association, Circus Cascadia, Oregon Paranormal Association and much more.  Check all the weird stuff out!  Click here for more info.

- Friends of the Hillsboro Library biannual booksale starts this Friday, October 31st and runs until Sunday, November 9th.  Open during regular library hours, get a 50-cent off coupon near the library main check-out desk for even more savings!  Paperback books, hardbound, VHS tapes and much more.

- Look for deep discounts at Fred Meyer, Target, Walmart and other area department stores as they clear out their Halloween merchandise, candy and costumes.  We recently purchases candy at 75% off at Bi-mart.  Even the specialty Halloween-only stores say that they will offer discounts (though not every item will be on sale).  If you got left out this Halloween on candy, now is the time to treat yourself! 

- Siren Nation kick off party.  Siren Nation is a unique arts organization that showcases and creates performance and exhibition opportunities for women throughout the year. We are the only women’s collective that produces an annual festival showcasing the original work of women working in music, film, performance and visual art.  Check out the party at Backspace this Thursday, 11/06 beginning at 6pm with an art reception and going til midnight with performances and a DJ.

- Wordstock and Stumptown Comics present a Graphic Novel First Thursday with doors opening at 6pm and readings starting at 6:45.  Admission is free, go to Fuzzy Glamour Gallery, 625 NW Everett St. #111.  Click here for more info.

- TONIGHT:  Thursday 8:00pm at the McMenamins Bagdad Theater, $5 gets you into the Portland world premiere of the horror flick "100 Feet" starring Famke Janssen and Michael Pare.  The Mercury newspaper gave it a pretty good, if short, review.

- Thursday October 30th--Last Thursday at the Alberta Arts District.  Galleries will be open from 5:30 to about 9:00pm, and be sure to check out the "Day of the Dead Procession" beginning at 7:00pm.  For more info, click here.

- This Tuesday, October 28th, Taco Bell is giving out FREE crunchy beef tacos from 2pm-6pm for their "Steal a base, steal a taco" World Series promotion.  Limit one per person.

- Macy's is celebrating 150 years with a great birthday sale this weekend.  On Saturday, October 25th, arrive early and be one of the first 150 customers in the store and receive a FREE $15 Macy's gift card (must be used that day).  Most stores are open 9am-9pm, but the fine print says that hours may vary by store so be sure to visit macys.com for exact hours.  In addition, Friday editions of the Oregonian have a clip-out Bonus savings pass that saves you an extra 20% or 15% on regular, sale and clearance purchases through Sunday, October 26th. 

- PCC Rock Creek has their annual Harvest Festival going on this weekend.  It will go from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25, Rock Creek Campus, 17705 N.W. Springville Road. The suggested donation is $5 per family, which includes, as long as the supply lasts, a free pumpkin from the Rock Creek Campus pumpkin patch. In addition, visitors gain free admission to the Washington County Historical Society Museum.  There's music, petting zoo, raffles, and much more for the entire family.  For more info click here.

Five Guys Burgers & Fries finally opens this Monday 10/20 at 11am.  Located on the corner of Walker Road and Cedar Hills Blvd, this East Coast chain serves up burgers, fries, hot dogs and nothing much else.  Regularly voted 'Best Burger' in Washington DC, we've tried em' before and thought they were pretty good for what you get, so try it out!
