* Buy fresh fruits and vegetables in season when they are on sale!  Use this handy web site from Natural Resources Defense Council for the best time to buy produce in Oregon.

Yeah, you gotta fork over an annual membership fee of $50 or more, so you decide if the combined savings are worth it.  Stock up on staples and find some good bargains with their private label 'Kirkland' brand.  Five locations around the Portland / Vancouver area.
Food 4 Less
Owned by Fred Meyer's parent, Kroger, Food 4 Less is one of those grcoery stores where you do your own bagging to save on groceries.  Find them at 82nd & Powell and a little further out in Gresham.
Grocery Outlet
It used to be that Grocery Outlet was associated with dented cans and foods close to their expiration date.  But take another look and you'll find some incredible name-brand bargains at 40% to 60% below traditional grocers. The locally operated stores offer your basic staples as well as frozen foods, deli & refrigerated, produce, fresh meat (selected stores) and some speciality food close-outs.  More than 10 locations around the Portland / Vancouver area.
Owned by the parent company that used to run Cub Foods, Save-A-Lot has four locations around the Portland / Vancouver area, the stores focus on exclusive Save-A-Lot brands and national brands, plus USDA-inspected beef, pork and poultry, farm-fresh fruits and vegetables and non-food items.  Go to the web site to access their weekly ad circular to see just how incredible their grocery sales are.
Walmart Supercenter
Walmart has groceries?  Yes they do, but you gotta go to their 'Supercenter' to get any kind of assortment of groceries.  Unfortunately you are limited to two locations in Vancouver and one in Wood Village off Interstate 84.
Winco Foods
Bag your own savings.  Open 24 hours a day, grab your cart and fill up on all your groceries for some really great prices on all your food needs.  Each store has a deli, bakery, bulk foods section and a pizzaria.  Over 10 locations in the greater Portland / Vancouver area.
The Other Grocery Stores
For all the other grocery stores, keep an eye out on their weekly circulars and sale items.  You might need to join with a 'Club card' or 'Preferred Savings card' in order to get the sales price.  But if you know a good deal when you see one or you shop at your neighborhood chain, then you know how to find the deals.  To view the weekly ad circular, click on your store below:
