Portland On The Cheap

Activities & Attractions:  Free or Reduced Admissions

* Updated January 2015 *

Oregon Historical Society All residents of Multnomah County receive free admission (just bring proof like your driver's license!); otherwise you can get free admission on special days specified on their web site.
Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) The first Sunday of every month gives all visitors general admission for only $2.  Submarine tours, Theater and Planetarium shows are also reduced during this time.
Oregon Zoo Once upon a time when I was still in high school and working at the zoo, the Washington Park Zoo (as it was called) used to offer free admission on the second Tuesday of the month after 4:00pm (we would actually close down the gates at 3:30pm and reopen them at 4:00pm--those lines were long!).  They discontinued this in the late 1990's and now offer a discounted admission of $4 on the second Tuesday of every month.

The zoo does charge $4 a car for parking, but if you ride the MAX and show proof of ridership, they'll knock off $1.50 from the price.  So, ride the MAX, show your ticket, and pay only $2.50.
Pittock Mansion They don't offer many free days, but in the past year they've offered free admission to mothers on Mother's Day and have held a free 'open house' during the summer.  We'll post if we find out any further free days.
Portland Art Museum Free admission for children ages 17 and younger every day.  This is supported by The Gordan D. Sondland and Katherine J. Durant Foundation.

Free admission on the fourth Friday of every month from 5:00pm - 8:00pm.
The Museum also offers free admission and special family programming several times a year.

If you are a Bank of America / Merrill Lynch cardholder (credit, debit or bankcard), just show your card and ID during the first full Saturday/Sunday weekend of the month and gain free admission as part of BoA's Museums on Us promotion.
Portland Children's Museum Thanks to the Target Corporation, the first Friday night each month is free admission from 4:00pm-8:00pm.
Portland Lan Su Classical Chinese Garden The first week of the new year is generally when the garden offers one free admission for each non-perishable food item donated to support the Oregon Food Bank.  Check here for calendar.

If you are a Bank of America / Merrill Lynch cardholder (credit, debit or bankcard), just show your card and ID during the first full Saturday/Sunday weekend of the month and gain free admission as part of BoA's Museums on Us promotion.
Portland Japanese Garden Free admission is generally offered annually on Veteran's Day and President's Day, but might change so your best bet is to click here for the latest news.

There are also Buy One/Get One free coupons available in the Portland Chinook Book.
